EKG Tests Performed at Reliance Primary & Urgent Care

An EKG, or electrocardiogram, shows your heart’s electrical activity. The heart works through an electrical system to contract and pump blood. The heart and body can become affected when the electrical system malfunctions, reducing overall blood flow. EKGs are used when you’re experiencing symptoms of a heart problem. By measuring the electrical activity, the EKG can determine the cause of your symptoms.

These devices show three kinds of information:

  • The Rate of Electrical Waves: EKGs measure the time that the electrical waves take to pass through the heart/
  • The Measure of Electrical Activity: EKGs measure the intensity and activity of the heart for instances of it being overworked or racing.
  • Other Related Heart Factors: EKG tests also show the heart’s blood flow, electrolyte count, and in some cases, heart muscle size to help diagnose and track heart problems.

During an EKG test, our technician will attach electrodes to your arms, legs, and chest as you lie flat. From there, a computer will create images of your heart’s electrical impulses on a digital screen to showcase your resting EKG.

When interpreting results from your EKG test, Dr. Patel and his team can provide a quick, comprehensive diagnostic for any heart conditions you may be facing. Throughout your EKG test, Dr. Patel will look for signs of heart problems, including:

  • Chest Pain
  • Body Fatigue
  • Racing Heart Rate
  • Trouble Breathing
  • Uneven Heart Beat
  • Unusual Sounds

If the test is normal, the results should show that your heart is working at a rate of 60 to 100 beats per minute. An abnormal EKG reading can indicate any number of problems with the heart, including arrhythmias, previous heart attacks, coronary artery disease, and even heart failure. If the result shows a heart problem, then our team can perform additional tests to diagnose your condition. In cases where your symptoms show an early warning sign of a heart attack, then our team will rush you to the hospital for emergency treatment.

EKG tests are considered one of the most accurate ways to diagnose many types of heart disease. At Reliance Primary & Urgent Care, our EKG tests are performed in-house, meaning you don’t need to go to an outpatient practice or laboratory to get tested. In urgent scenarios where you’re experiencing symptoms of heart problems, our team can provide reliable EKG tests to diagnose what’s happening with your heart and treat your condition.
